Colquitt County, GA- The hunt for 32-year-old Demetrius Walden ended in Tallahassee, about 24 hours after it started.

Colquitt County Sheriff's Deputies say the inmate was on work detail Monday afternoon, when he made his getaway; thanks to the help of girlfriend Chavaya Torres, 24, and Tylesia Garland, 21.

"The two females actually went to Thomasville and rented a car," said Lt. Shannon Hart with the Colquitt County Sheriff's Office. "Tylesia actually drove up here, parked in front of the sheriff's office, and bought him a change of clothes that she left in the bathroom downstairs. He changed clothes, walked out the front door, got in the car and left."

Investigators say they first questioned Torres, who is pregnant with Walden's child, shortly after his escape.

They then met her a second time at the Thomas County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday for more questioning.

That's when, they say, she finally broke down and told them what she and Garland did to help Walden escape.

Hart says both women are charged with aiding another to escape lawful confinement.

Deputies say because of this incident, they've tightened up security.

Going forward, no inmate is allowed to enter or leave the building without the supervision of a guard.

A South Georgia jail escapee was captured in Tallahassee this afternoon after about 24 hours on the run.

A man unwittingly let Demetrius Walden into his apartment to use the phone and soon found himself in the middle of a manhunt.

"We beleive that Walden actually knocked on a door and asked if he could use the phone and from that point we were able to pinppint his location," LCSO Spokesman James McQuaig said.

Walden was first spotted near the Quality Inn at North Monroe Street and I-10 at about 12:30 p.m.

Troopers, deputies, police and U.S. Marshals moved in.

They ultimately found Walden hiding inside an apartment at the Park on Forest Ridge complex on Old Bainbridge Road.

Neighbors say that apartment was surrounded by cops with guns.

"I heard them say go around back so he can't get out and they're like 'We're coming in. Put your hands up. Just come out. We're not trying to hurt you' and maybe like five minutes later I saw the guy coming down and getting in the car," Ahmarie Holmes said.

Walden had escaped from the Colquitt County Jail Monday. Deputies there say he walked away from a work detail at about 12:30 p.m.

Walden was in jail for violating his probation and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He'll now be facing escape charges too.
