Ethics Complaint Filed Against Tallahassee City Commission Candidate

Tallahassee, Florida - August 8, 2012 -

One week before election day, a new ethics complaint has been filed against a candidate for Tallahassee's City Commission.

At issue is Steve Stewart's claim of being an electrical engineer in past campaign material.

Stewart says he has a degree in electrical engineering and was paid in that profession until 1990.

However in 2002, Florida's law was changed to require a license for the profession.

In May, Leon County resident Ken Walton filed a complaint with Florida's Board of Engineers against Stewart.

That group then sent Stewart a letter telling him he can't represent himself as an electrical engineer without having a license.

The lead attorney for the board says Stewart agreed and the case was settled two months ago.

Now today, Walton filed a complaint with the state's ethics commission claiming Stewart violated the public trust by misrepresenting himself.

Stewart says the matter has already been resolved.

He calls the new ethics complaint, a pre-election attack by someone who doesn't want him to pursue ethics reform.
