Extra Incentive to Finish GED Before 2014

By: Julie Montanaro

Tallahassee, Fla. -- People working toward earning their GED may have some added incentive to do it this year.

The state of Florida will start using a new test come new year's day 2014.

It will cost nearly twice as much as taking the current test.

Students who have passed portions of the test, but not all five sections, will have those scores thrown out and will have to start all over again.

The change has prompted more than 100 people to show up for free practice tests offered in Leon County.

"I am really trying to get it finished by December 31st," Quandarius Dugan, Working Toward GED, said. "I heard it's getting harder. I'm trying...I'm not focused on that. I'm focused on getting it done by December 31st.

Free practice tests will be offered at ACE this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

The Adult and Community Education campus is located on Trojan Trail near Lincoln High School.
