Florida A&M University (FAMU) will hold its fall commencement ceremony on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013 at 6 p.m. at the Alfred Lawson, Jr., Multipurpose Center and Teaching Gymnasium (Lawson Center). The commencement speaker will be FAMU graduate Sonia Jackson Myles, corporate executive and author of the NAACP Image Award-nominated book, “The Sister Accord: 51 Ways To Love Your Sister.”
Members of the media planning to attend commencement must pick up a press pass from FAMU’s Office of Media Relations (Suite 100, Lee Hall) prior to the event. Passes will be available for pick up on Dec. 12 from 3-5 p.m. and on Dec. 13 from 8:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. Media must also have their affiliate IDs (or press badges) on their person, in a visible area, at all times. No access will be granted without the proper ID. Please arrive to set up your equipment by 5:15 p.m. Appropriate dress (presentable shoes, shirts and bottoms) for the occasion is required.
There will be a designated area for members of the media on the right side of the platform. Members of the media are required to refrain from accessing the arena floor during the ceremony other than to take photos or shoot footage of the speaker and/or participants of the ceremony. Please reserve your questions for graduates or ceremony participants until the completion of commencement. Those accessing the arena floor outside of the purpose of photography or videography will be asked to return to the designated media area.
The university is requesting that attendees refrain from bringing strollers, balloons, foghorns, large signs or banners and weapons of any sort to the ceremony. Attendees are also asked not to access the arena floor/graduate seating during the ceremony.
