TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- If you've noticed some extra traffic in Tallahassee, you're not imagining things. College students are getting back in town to get ready for classes on Monday. But before the school year starts, FAMU and FSU students will have tons of things to do on campus.
It's what campuses are calling "Welcome Week." Both schools will have something going on everyday until school starts on August 25th.
"We want them to come in and get involved on our campus," said Brandi Tatum with FAMU Student Involvement. "Learn what FAMU has to offer to them...we want them to feel like a home away from home, and that's what it is. It's a community, we embrace you, we give you sometimes tough love, but it's all in the name of making you a better person once you leave here."
Welcome Week comes to a close at FAMU with the Freshman Pinning Ceremony. That's when a current student pins an incoming student.
Over at FSU, they're welcoming the class of 2018 with what they're calling Seminole Sensation week. It started Wednesday night with a zip lining adventure through the Student Union. Thursday night, students can enjoy $1 bowling, an outdoor movie on the Green and even a local band. Things will wrap up with a New Student Convocation and barbeque on Sunday.
"We really pack it out during Seminole Sensation week," said Allison Peters with FSU Student Activities. "We also have a number of popular programs like karoke, free paint-a-pot for FSU students...comedians, hypnotists, speed friending which is always popular. So a number of different events. We really like to make sure that people are going to have a great time and have a change to meet new people."
