FAMU to Celebrate its 125th Anniversary

Tallahassee, FL. – September 29, 2012

To celebrate its rich history, Florida A&M University has scheduled two days of special events in honor of its 125th anniversary on October 2nd and 3rd.

FAMU was founded as the State Normal College for Colored Students, and on October 3, 1887, it began classes with fifteen students and two instructors.

Today, with an enrollment of more than 12,000 students, FAMU is the premier school among historically black colleges and universities.

The 125th anniversary activities are as follows:

Music on the Quad featuring a performance of “the WiZStory of Florida A&M University” and the 125 Voice Anniversary Choir

Founders’ Day Convocation
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Frederick S. Humphries, Regent Professor at the College of Law and Eighth President of FAMU
Legacy Torch returns to FAMU — Presented during Convocation
Alfred L. Lawson Jr. Multipurpose Center and Teaching Gymnasium

Wreath Laying Ceremony

Birthday Celebration — It’s a Party!

The special birthday activities include the following:
• Music, Food and Fun
• Presidential Monologues — History of FAMU
• Serving of Cupcakes and Ice Cream
• The Birthday Song
• Flight of the Doves in honor of FAMU’s Quasquicentennial
• 1-2-5 Rattler Strut (New stroll created in honor of the 125th Anniversary)

FAMU’s 125th Anniversary gala is scheduled for November 9 at 7 p.m. in the Alfred L. Lawson Jr. Multipurpose Center and Teaching Gymnasium. FAMU will honor 125 outstanding alumni.

Tickets are $125 per person.
