A subcommittee of FAMU's Presidential Search Committee met today. Members of the Qualifications and Criteria subcommittee met by teleconference. The conference call only lasted about 15 minutes, but members sound like they're well on their way in getting the process started in finding an executive search firm in helping to hire a new president here at FAMU.

When the president search committee met last month, members agreed to hire a firm to assist in finding a new university president.

Tallahassee, Florida- August 30, 2012

Earlier this summer Doctor James Ammons resigned after several hazing accusations surrounding the university since the death of Drum Major Robert Champion. A series of meetings are on the calendar as Florida A&M searches far and wide for a new president of the university. Today was one of those meetings.

For about 45 minutes through a teleconference subcommittees of the FAMU presidential search discussed steps they plan to take in searching for a new president. Today's meeting was originally scheduled for two hours, from 3 to 5 but wrapped up early. They basically just went over some procedural items and nothing really came out of the meeting. It is the first in a series of at least five meetings that go through September.

Not too much came out of today's meeting, but WCTV will be there every step of the way to keep you updated as the university continues its search for a new president.

[UPDATE] August 22, 2012- 9 pm

The search committee at FAMU has officially gotten started with its process in finding a new university president. Members expect to have a long road ahead them.

The FAMU presidential search committee ended its first meeting at the Al Lawson Center on campus with embers saying they hope to have a new university president hired and ready to work by next Fall semester.

The presidential search committee voted this afternoon to hire an executive firm. The firm would lead the task of selecting a permanent president at FAMU. Dr. Larry Robinson is serving as the interim president. He was formally the university provost, and will not be allowed to apply for the permanent position.

Former FAMU President Dr. James Ammons resigned last month in the wake of the hazing death of drum major Robert Champion back in November.

In today's first meeting, the search committee discussed the best ways and legal procedures in searching for a new president. They expect the process to take about a year.
