Tallahassee, Florida- August 7, 2012

Thousands of teachers in Leon County spent the day in a teaching academy and the controversial FCAT was part of the lesson plan.

In addition to motivational speakers one of the topics at today's academy was a test that will soon replace the 'Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test' or the FCAT. Leon County School reps say in 2014 that test will become a thing of the past...In it's place will be a test called the 'Common Core'.

Teachers spent the day learning how that test differs from the FCAT and how to best prepare their students. This year the FCAT came under fire when new test procedures were used and resulted in lower scores.

School administrators around the state asked that the test be scrapped. In the end the state of Florida admitted to making mistakes in the grading system and Education Commissioner Gerard Robinson resigned.
