FSU Police Ramp Up Traffic Enforcement

Tallahassee, FL - Folks who put the pedal to the metal could find themselves looking down the barrel of a laser gun.

Police at Florida State University are ramping up traffic enforcement from now until the end of the year. Motorcycle officers are taking part in a federal challenge that tracks the number of officers, hours and citations. Then checks to see if that has any impact on the number of crashes on campus.

Says Hank Jacob, of the FSU Police Department: "Last year the overall reduction statewide during the two month period was a 22% reduction in fatal crashes and reductions in crashes with injuries a little under 10%."

Federal and state grant money is on the line too. Departments that put the brakes on crashes can use that money to buy new lasers, traffic cones, speed signs and more.
