Tallahassee, FL - September 21, 2012

Last night at 11:30 p.m., units from the Tallahassee Fire Department Stations 4 and 1 responded to a kitchen fire in the 2300 Block of Sharkey Street. Firefighters encountered heavy smoke as they made entry into the single story block house. The fire on the stove was extinguished within minutes and the three occupants made it out of the home safely.

The fire started when a pan of grease was left unattended on the stove. The occupant’s cat suffered smoke inhalation and was revived by firefighters on scene then transported to a local animal hospital. No other injuries were reported at the scene and damages from the fire were estimated at $15,000. The three occupants were displaced from the home as a result of the fire.

This morning at 5:00 a.m., units from the Tallahassee Fire Department Stations 14, 4 and 1 responded to a double-wide mobile home in the 5600 Block of Smith Creek Road. Firefighters from Station 14 reported heavy fire and roof collapse upon arrival and began a defensive attack. One occupant was home at the time of the fire and suffered smoke inhalation and was transported by Leon County EMS to a local hospital. The fire was extinguished and no other injuries were reported at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Tallahassee Fire Department and Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office. The fire is a total loss resulting in an estimated $80,000 in damages. TFD was also assisted by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Lake Talquin Volunteer Fire Department and Leon County EMS.
