Lowndes County, GA -
A fire destroyed a Lowndes County home, car and barn on Thursday afternoon.
The fire at 3566 Kay Circle allegedly started from a burning pile of wood on the lawn. It likely spread because of the wind. Five Lowndes County fire trucks responded. Firefighters had to use chainsaws to gain entry into the property. They eventually put it out around 6PM.
Lowndes County Clerk Paige Dukes said "you must have a burn permit under any circumstances to burn yard debris. And then you also need to make sure that, you know, again that you're being smart about the conditions. If there is wind blowing at all or if you plan to burn near a structure it's just not a good idea."
The homeowner, Billy Bradley, was away from the home at the time of the fire. There were no injuries.
