Press Release: Tallahassee Fire Department
Friday night at 10:52, six units from the Tallahassee Fire Department responded to the report of a house fire in the area of Gibbs and Tharpe.
On arrival, firefighters found a single-family home’s back porch in the 600 block of Tharpe and a large storage building in the 600 block of Stiles heavily involved.
After knocking down the fire in the house from the outside, an interior attack was made and the fire was contained to the rear portion of the structure. The storage building was a total loss, though the fire was kept from spreading to adjacent properties.
Neither structure was occupied. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as well as the State Fire Marshal’s Office. The damage to both properties is estimated at $80,000.
Firefighters and police are investigating an incident at a local home Friday night.
Dozens of Tallahassee firefighters and police were on the scene at a home on West Tharpe street.
No one was able to confirm exactly what happened, but there was the smell of smoke in the air.
Firefighters continued to canvass the home around midnight. Once we find out more information, we will bring that to you.
