HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) -- A Florida man has been sentenced to eight years in prison in sex case involving an underage girl.

Thirty-three-year-old James Christopher Clement of St. Petersburg was sentenced this week in federal court in Harrisonburg. Clement previously pleaded guilty to one count of traveling in interstate commerce for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a minor.

Federal prosecutors say the carnival worker began dating the victim's mother in 2010. Clement moved into the family's Rockingham County home and started an inappropriate relationship with the girl, then convinced her to take a trip with him to West Virginia and Kentucky.

Prosecutors say Clement admitted he took the girl out of state to have sex with her. Clement was arrested in Kentucky and returned to Virginia for prosecution.
