TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida Gov. Rick Scott and top Democratic rival Charlie Crist are not in agreement on the number of gubernatorial debates.

Scott announced on Tuesday that he would appear in three debates hosted by Telemundo, CNN and Leadership Florida that will occur in October.

That drew criticism from Crist who said in a statement that doing three debates is a "disservice to voters." He wants at least one debate to be held in a town hall forum that features questions from voters. The Crist campaign said it has accepted invitations to seven debates.

Crist is not the Democratic nominee. He will square off against state senator Nan Rich in the Aug. 26 primary.

Crist has refused to debate Rich before their primary, saying that he is focused on running against Scott.
