Associated Press Release

ESPANOLA, Fla. (AP) -- A Florida man is recovering in a hospital after spending a few days stuck in a swamp.

The St. Augustine Record reports (http://bit.ly/11N1uwh ) that Guss Baker of Hastings told his rescuers that he had been drinking swamp water to survive.

Baker was reported missing on Thursday. He had been scheduled to take a migrant work van from Bunnell to North Carolina, but he was out of medication. By the time his girlfriend arrived to pick him up, he was missing.

A report about fresh human tracks in the swamps near Espanola in Flagler County finally led authorities to Baker early Monday. Rescuers crawled on their hands and knees, used machetes to cut through brush and called in a helicopter to hoist Baker to safety.
