Tallahassee, FL-November 30, 2012
A new study says Florida drivers have a need for speed.
According to the website, www.CarInsuranceQuotes.com, Florida ranks as the state most likely to ticket drivers for speeding.
It also ranks in the top-10 for speed traps, according to the study.
While The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor vehicles disputes some of the study's numbers, it says it's important for drivers on the road to be aware of the speed limit.
"Speed limits are established because of concrete factors such as engineering studies of the road, studies done on what weather conditions are going to do to that surface, and so if you're exceeding the speed limit, you're really putting yourself and everyone in your vehicle at risk," says Kirsten Olsen-Doolan, spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor vehicles.
According to the study, Georgia and Nevada are tied at number two on the list of states most likely to give you a speeding ticket.
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor vehicles says it issued just under one million speeding tickets last year.
