SUNNYVALE, Calif. (AP) -- A Miami woman is facing extradition to California on charges that she scammed a divorcee out of almost $850,000 by promising to protect her from voodoo curses.

The San Jose Mercury News reports that 33-year-old Peaches Miller is scheduled to appear in a Florida courtroom on Thursday for an extradition hearing.

Santa Clara County, Calif. prosecutors have charged her with two counts of grand theft and one count of extortion in connection with the alleged scam on a Sunnyvale woman. She was arrested in Florida on Saturday.

According to court documents, the Sunnyvale woman became convinced that her ex-husband was placing curses on her. Authorities say she believed only Miller could offer her protection and wired Miller checks for thousands of dollars from 2002 to 2010.

The attorney handling Miller's extradition proceedings did not immediately return a call for comment.
