Dozens of people spent Sunday at the movie theater to support local organizations.
"This is a nice way. It allows me to have some entertainment and to enjoy a great movie and help a great cause," said moviegoer and Thomasville resident, Carol Biggs.
It's the 9th Annual "Food and Film For A Cause" and it's helping two Thomasville organizations make a difference in the community.
"For one day only, they donate 100% of sales to the local Thomas County United Way and also Thomas County Salvation Army," said Wylie Watt with United Way of Thomas County
Hosted by the Georgia Theater Company, all proceeds from ticket and concession sales collected from the Gateway Cinemas in Thomasville on Sept. 23 will go directly to those charities.
Both organizations plan to use the money to help others in the community.
"The money we receive is distributed to over 15 non-profit agencies here in town," said Watt. "The Boy Scouts, the YMCA, the local Humane Society, to name a few."
Stanley Robison with the Salvation Army Of Thomas County added, "This money will go into our operating fund to continue to help with utilities and rent and will also give us a good start on Christmas."
Moviegoers say they look forward to this opportunity every year.
"It's so nice and generous of the theater company to allow this to happen," said Biggs. "I myself am with a non-profit, and I know the good work United Way does and it's a small form of giving back."
Over the years, the event has raised nearly a half million dollars.
