ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -- Former University of Georgia tennis coach and sports historian Dan Magill has died at the age of 93.
Clarke County Coroner Sonny Wilson says Magill died early Sunday morning at an assisted living facility Athens. Norman says Magill died of natural causes.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports that Magill served as the University of Georgia men's tennis coach from 1955 to 1988 winning 13 SEC outdoor titles, eight indoor titles and two NCAA national championships during his tenure.
In a 2007 interview with the newspaper, Magill said he planned to coach for a year but considered the job a good stress reliever and stayed.
After retiring Magill ran the Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame, housed in a building next to a tennis center on campus that bears his name.
