Three former foster youth will attend President Obama's upcoming inauguration and share their stories with lawmakers this weekend on behalf of the Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth.
California Congresswoman Karen Bass invited the three youths to attend, hoping that witnessing the historic occasion will inspire them to reach goals in their own lives.
Bass will also introduce the youths to fellow lawmakers to raise awareness around the need for change within the nation's foster care system. The caucus is focusing on improving education outcomes for foster youths this year.
Florida Congressman Alcee Hastings says many issues the caucus addresses are often considered too local until tragedy brings them to national attention. He says the group can bring local stakeholders together on a national level to share in a dialogue.
