Quitman, GA - Friends, family and teammates said goodbye to Shawn Waters Saturday afternoon in Quitman. The Tabernacle Church was packed and there no was no shortage of tears for the young football player who's life was taken in a tragic car wreck on the morning of July ninth.

Chandler Poore is one of Shawn's teammates. He said Shawn "always told me to do good on and off the field and always showed me the right way to go. I'm going to miss him more than anything. He was like my second dad."

Toriano Porterfield is another teammate. He said "Shawn was a great friend. He was always encouraging to me. He told me to keep my head up."

Austin White also played with Shawn. He said "you know its a big hole in all of our hearts but we know where he's at and he's going to be way better up there. And he's going to be with us every single game on and off the field."

Minister Tony Herring, who delivered Shawn's eulogy was there many years ago when Shawn was baptized... and said he lived in the lord. But saying goodbye to the Brooks County Trojan was no easy task. And there's no way to replace him on the field.

His coach Maurice Freeman said "he's like having a coach on the field and he's like having an extra dad. He's one of those guys that's going to tell them right from wrong and what you're supposed to do and how to carry yourself. And he shows you how to do it, not only tell you, but he shows you how to do it the right way."

The Trojans will play this season with their eyes on a championship in honor of Shawn as well as the other two young men who lost their lives, Jicarre Watkins and Johnny Parker.

Johnny Parker's funeral will be held Sunday at the Tabernacle church at 4pm. Jiccare Watkins' funeral will be held next saturday at Veterans Staidum at eleven AM. Both are open to the public.
