Quitman, GA - An emotional memorial. Family and friends gather at Tabernacle Church in Quitman, Georgia to honor former Brooks County High School football player Johnie Parker.
Johnie was a talented up and comer. He would have been a Junior in the fall.
"He had a great Spring. If we would have had a game tomorrow he would have been a starter," said Coach Maurice Freeman.
Parker was one of four young men caught in a deadly car wreck. He was killed along with Shawn Waters and Jicarre Watkins when their SUV slammed into a tree Tuesday morning. A fourth passenger, De'Vron Whitefield, who was Waters brother, survived and is now back home in Quitman.
Johnie's brother made a special visit from prison.
"He got big. A whole lot bigger than me. I told him every time i called him 'I love you.'"
At the end of the service Johnie's casket was carried out the door to the funeral hearse. And the football team went to visit his grave for one last chance to say their goodbyes.
Jiccare Watkins' funeral will be held next Saturday at Veterans Stadium at eleven a.m. It will also be open to the public.
