ATLANTA (AP) -- A fourth-grade teacher from Houston County is being honored as Georgia's "Teacher of the Year."
Amanda Miliner was recognized Tuesday during a ceremony in Atlanta. She teaches fourth grade at Miller Elementary in Warner Robins, about 10 miles south of Macon, and was chosen from 10 finalists for the recognition.
Miliner was a former Miss Georgia who was raised by a single mother on active duty in the Air Force. She says teachers were part of her extended family and inspired her to pursue education as a career.
