Associated Press Release
ALBANY, Ga. (AP) -- When Alexis Andrews graduates from Dougherty High School later this month, she'll be celebrating the occasion with her mother -- who will also be wearing a cap and gown.
WALB-TV reports Alexis and her mother, Kimberly Andrews, will be the first mother-daughter pair to graduate at the same time from the Albany high school.
Kimberly Andrews says she had all the class credits needed to earn her diploma 22 years ago, but she failed part of the required graduation test. A counselor at the school recently encouraged her to take the test again, and this time she passed.
Kimberly Andrews says she's excited to finally graduate and plans to enroll in college courses.
She and her daughter plan to march beside each other during the commencement ceremony May 18.
