Tallahassee, FL -- May 21, 2012 --
AAA says the national average price for regular retail gasoline fell for 45 days straight after peaking at $3.93 back in April.
Prices are expected to decline further this week as Memorial Day weekend approaches.
Although millions of people are expected to travel by automobile this upcoming Memorial Day holiday, experts say is more likely because the price of gas is going down.
AAA says gas price trends have followed the recent reduction in the price of oil, which is expected to continue throughout the month.
Spokespersons say drivers will get the much needed relief at the pump just in time for the Memorial Day weekend.
Motorist Brian Pennington says, "That's great news. I don't know if that's because of the election or what not. But, I'm definitely in favor of lower gas prices, for sure; especially being in this heat, you need A/C, and A/C takes gas."
The national average price of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.68.
Florida's average of $3.54 is 8 cents less than last week. Georgia's $3.45 decreased 7 cents from last week.
AAA says it expects 30.7 million Americans to hit the road for Memorial Day weekend.
