Valdosta, GA - We all use electricity in our everyday lives. Now the Georgia Power Electric Company is going green by expanding its use of Solar Power. But it wasn't their idea. State regulators voted Thursday to require the power company to add 525 megawatts of solar energy to its network.

State regulators hope the move will help relieve dependency on coal and natural gas. Once it became clear the vote was going to pass, a lawyer for Georgia Power said the firm did not object.

Solar power will remain only a fraction of the company's overall energy generation even once the new solar projects and those already underway are making electricity.
