ATLANTA (AP) -- The Georgia Department of Public Safety has welcomed 46 new cadets to the Georgia State Patrol.
Officials say the new cadets graduated Friday at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth and will report to their posts Sept. 1. The graduation featured a keynote address by Gov. Nathan Deal and remarks by Department of Public Safety Commissioner Mark McDonough.
The new cadets graduated after 31 weeks of training, which included 18 weeks at the academy, 12 weeks of field training and week of graduation preparation.
Officials say the cadets spent more than 1,500 hours on training and covered topics including driving, defensive tactics, vehicle stops, Spanish, criminal law and more.
