Associated Press Release
DECATUR, Ga. (AP) -- A 10-year-old Georgia girl is being called a hero after she caught a newborn baby dropped to safety by its mother from a second-floor window as fire engulfed their apartment building.
Authorities say Zna (Zah-NAY) Gresham caught the 1-month-old baby, who was one of three young children dropped from the second-story window on Thursday at the Arbors at North Decatur in the Atlanta suburb of Decatur.
WSB-TV reports that three young children and two adults were hospitalized, but they were all expected to survive. Authorities say the fire appeared to have started in a kitchen in a first-floor unit of the complex.
The girl credits her aunt with holding a door open so she and her family members could escape the fire, allowing her to then catch the baby.
