Statement on Joshua Floyd Passing

Joshua Floyd was a wonderful young man. While in high school (Godby) he was a member of the Students Against Destructive Decisions, (SADD) and the Key club, both of which I was faculty advisor. He was also in the Jr. ROTC program. He was a positive role model for his peers, did so much for his school and community, and his smiling face cheered anyone who came in contact with him. He will be missed.

Taylor County, FL -- May 28, 2012 --

Weather played a role in an accident that killed a former Godby High School student.

Joshua P. Floyd, 20, was driving westbound on U.S. Highway 27 in Taylor County near James Beathea Road at about 12:50 p.m. Monday afternoon.

A 2008 Honda Civic, driven by David Sasnett, 27, of Athens, Georgia was in the eastbound lane. Sasnett's vehicle hydroplaned on the wet road and entered the westbound lane. The right side of the vehicle struck Floyd's motorcycle.

Floyd was wearing a helmet at the time and alcohol did not play a factor.

The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted by Taylor County EMS and the Taylor County Sheriff's Office

I've know Josh since he was a little guy, when Gene and I were single dads together in Gville. He always went head-first into the world, joyfully and enthusiastically. It looks like that's the way he went out too. He will always live on in our hearts. He'll always be young and fun and gung-ho. I send all my love to Gene and his boys, and my gratitude for the gifts you brought us.

Gene, you with kids in tow has always been an inspiration to those of us in the cycling community. I remember vividly in Camilla during TOSRV where one of the boys shimmied up a pole to return a baby wren to it's nest. A simple act of kindness that said so much. So very sorry that the world has lost such a fine young man too early.

I met Josh in middle school about 7 years ago. We played trumpet in the same band class. This kid always had a positive behavior and a smile on his face. He was always looking for the next thing to do. Although I wasn't as close to him as others it was a great privilege to have have known him period. This news still comes at a shock to me because it was someone close, but one thing that I can say I learned from him was to not waste time. We never know when the Lord will call for us and we have to be prepared to go with him. Life is to precious to waste on things that will not benefit you or help win your salvation so we should take josh's passing as testimony that there is no age limit to God's calling, RIP Joshua Floyd it was a great honor to have known you. My prayers go out to the family and God Bless.

I heard about this yesterday. My condolences to the family, as well as the people who worked so closely with him at the airport. He's in a better place now, for sure. I'll never understand why God takes people when they're so young. It's a loss to everyone. Rest in Peace, my friend.

Gene and family, I am so sorry for your loss. It was a divine appointment that we meet yesterday. I pray that God will comfort and strengthen you in the coming days. You and your family were on my mind as we traveled home. We did make it home safely thank you for your concern. As we talked yesterday I could tell that you loved Josh very much. If there is anything I can do please contact me.

I've worked along side Josh for years now and always knew him as an honest, bright young man with a warm sense of humor and high hopes for his future. It seems an even deeper-cut tragedy when the best of us are lost. He will be missed at TLH airport. Rest well, Josh.
