Tallahassee, Florida – December 8, 2012
Governor Rick Scott celebrated the beginning of Chanukah by participating in a ceremonial lighting of the menorah with Rabbi Schneur Oirechman of Chabad Lubavitch of the Panhandle-Tallahassee.
Governor Scott said, “With the beginning of Chanukah, Jewish families across Florida will reflect on the year’s blessings and on the importance of tradition and family. The story of Chanukah reminds us that confidence in one’s identity and hope for the future are powerful forces that cannot be defeated—even in the darkest of times. Chanukah is also a time to reiterate our support for the people of Israel. Ann and I wish Florida’s Jewish community a very happy Chanukah, and we are keeping our friends in Israel in our prayers for a future of peace.”
