In honor of Memorial Day the V-F-W Post 8433 held a ceremony honoring Grady Countians who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. The family members of fallen soldiers rang a bell for each person who served the United States during both world wars, the Korean War or the Vietnam War. There were a host of musical tributes and history lessons. The key note speaker, Bob Taylor, emphasized the importance of teaching younger generations that Memorial Day is about more that beaches and cookouts. Annette Harrell lives in Grady County and she says "I think that if we let these types of ceremony die with us our soldiers died in vein.”
The ceremony paid homage to more than fifty soldiers but only one of them is buried in Grady County.
