A group of animal rights activists protested outside a Tallahassee Wal Mart. They're upset about the treatment of pigs.
The group Mercy for Animals is known for its undercover investigations at factory farms and slaughter houses. Now, they've brought an inflated bloody pig to Tallahassee to express their anger with Walmart.
Protesters with Mercy for Animals protested outside of the Walmart on North Monroe Street in Tallahassee Thursday.
The group says Walmart tortures pigs, and displayed a huge inflated pig in a cage to help relay their message.
Phil Letten, Mercy for Animals Campaign Coordinator, says, "We documented pregnant pigs confined to filthy metal gestation crates that are so small the animals are unable to even turn around or lie down comfortably for nearly their entire lives, sick and injured pigs with severe bleeding wombs and infections left to suffer without any veterinary care."
The protesters are asking Walmart to phase out using gestation crates.
Group members say they've spoken directly to representative of Walmart to give their concerns and demands.
A Walmart manager at the Monroe Street location says she could not comment; and Eyewitness News has not heard back from managers at the corporate level.
