Florida Highway Patrol Press Release

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the death of a local Jasper woman, William Katelyn Mitchell, 18, who died in a single vehicle / single occupant crash which occurred early Sunday morning on Southwest 107th Avenue, 4 miles southwest of Jasper.

According to preliminary findings, Mitchell was traveling east on Southwest 107th Avenue (a Rural area,) at a relitively high rate of speed (estimated at approximately 60+ in a posted 35 zone).

Evidence indicates that Mitchell allowed her vehicle to veer off the roadway onto the left / northernmost, sloped grassy shoulder while attempting to negotiate a right curve in the road.

Mitchell then drove down the northernmost shoulder and then entered into an adjacent treeline, where her truck then struck several trees. During the course of these impacts with the first set of trees, Mitchell, who was unrestrained, was ejected from the vehicle; where shethen sustained fatal injuries.

Mitchell was pronounced deceased at the scene of this collision by responding rescue personnel.
