Taylor County, FL - Taylor County Sheriff's Office reports that late last night there was a report of a stolen Ford pickup truck in Taylor County. Deputies spotted the vehicle, and attempted to pull it over. The truck sped off, and drove through Taylor County and Perry.
The Taylor County Sheriff's Office followed the vehicle, surrounding it. The truck rammed a deputy's car, smashing the car into an electricity pole. The truck kept driving, even after spike strips were deployed. The car continued to drive, even as the tires were down to the rims.
The driver returned to his house at 5429 US 19 South. When he got there, he barricaded himself in the house, and reported that he was holding someone hostage.
Taylor County enlisted the help of Leon County Sheriff's Office Swat Team. After several hours of negotiating, LCSO decided to use tear gas in the house. After tear gas was deployed, the driver of the Ford then surrendered and was taken in to custody at 9 am. Law enforcement reports that no one else was found in the house.
The suspect's name is Fred Eugene Jenkins Jr. he was working construction in the area. He just finished serving 12 years in prison in South Carolina for armed robbery.
No law enforcement or citizens were injured in the chase or standoff.

Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Official
Grand Theft Auto
Resisting Arrest with Violence
Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon
Currently being held at the Taylor County Jail.
