Suspects Identified in Midway High Speed Chase

Gadsden County, FL - Around 12:30 p.m the Midway Police Department was called out to a residential home. A neighbor noticed two suspicious men carrying out items from a home including a TV. Police responded to the scene when the suspects took off almost hitting a patrol car.

The suspects fled through Midway and and headed east on Highway 90 before heading West on I-10. Speeds reached in excess of 110 mph on the highway. One driver was driven off the road from the chase.

The suspects then got off on Quincy exit 181 where FHP and the Gadsden County sheriff's office joined in the pursuit.

The suspects then fled back towards Midway. The car they were driving then T-boned a deputies car. The suspects then fled on foot but were apprehended soon after.

The chase lasted about a half hour. The deputy who's vehicle was struck is ok.

The two suspects have been identified as:

Derrick Deon Baxter, B/M, 18, of Tallahassee, Florida

Christopher Donte Brown, B/M, 19, of Tallahassee, Florida

On May 15, 2013 at approximately 12:30pm, Midway Police officers were responding to the area of Deanna Green Lane and Rustling Pines Boulevard in reference to a possible burglary in progress. Upon arrival to the area, officers noticed a vehicle matching the suspects description of a Silver 4 door sedan. At that point officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle. The suspects then proceeded to ram the marked Midway Police patrol vehicle.

At that point, a vehicle pursuit was initiated passing local roads and traveling thru the commercial district of Midway on Highway 90 East, and then to Interstate 10 Westbound. Gadsden County Sheriffs Office then joined the vehicle pursuit following the suspect vehicle off Exit 181 in Quincy, Florida. The suspects then turned onto Highway 267 with speeds reaching over 75 mph. Florida Highway Patrol then joined in on the pursuit assisting Midway Police Department and Gadsden County Sheriffs Office.

The suspects then turned onto Joe Adams Road and then onto High Bridge road headed back into Midway where they were met by additional Gadsden County Sheriffs deputies, Florida Highway Patrol troopers, and Midway Police. The suspects then attempted to avoid additional officers and deputies and rammed a marked Gadsden County Sheriffs Office patrol vehicle.

The suspects then attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended on scene.

Driving off Pavement on the right: F.S. 316.084 (2)
Too Fast for Conditions F.S. 316.183 (1)
Failed to Obey Traffic Control Device: F.S. 316.074 (1)
Christopher Donte Brown, B/M, 19, of Tallahassee, Florida
Burglary: F.S. 810.02 (1) (2)
Grand Theft: F.S. 812.014 (2)(C)(1)

The suspects were arrested and will be taken to the Gadsden County Jail.
