Tawana Spencer lives next door to the home that caught fire Friday afternoon.

Firefighters say lightning struck and put a door-sized hole in the attic of the Golden Rain Drive home.

"I rushed out the house and when I looked at the house it was just smoke comin' from everywhere and all of that," said Spencer. "I knew that it was the lightning that hit it."

A woman was inside during the fire but made it out safely with her dog. This is the fifth time TFD has had to respond to a fire caused by lightning in the past six days.

"It's not a bad idea to check it out if you smell smoke or anything that's funny," said TFD firefighter Tim Aselton. "Don't hesitate to call us. We'll come out and check it out no matter what."

A woman was inside of the house at the time of the fire. She came out with her dog after neighbors told her that the place was on fire.

Her husband and daughter were not home at the time and everyone is safe.

This is about the fourth or fifth fire Tallahassee Fire Department has responded to because of a lightning strike.

Lightning strike on a home off of Golden Rain Drive caused a house fire.

Firefighters came out and quickly demolished the flames. The only real damage seems to be in the front of the house right above the garage where the attic would be.

No word on any injuries. Neighbors said they did see a fire shortly after a lightning strike a little bit before 5 o'clock this evening.
