News Release: Tallahassee Fire Department
Early this morning at 6:18 a.m. units from Tallahassee Fire Department Station 1 and Station 2 were dispatched for a reported apartment fire in the 400 block of W. 5th Avenue. The first unit arrived on scene 5 minutes later and reported heavy smoke and fire coming from one of the middle apartments. Units worked quickly to extinguish the blaze. The fire was knocked down in about 10 minutes and crews spent about an hour checking for extension into other apartments and ensuring complete extinguishment. All occupants were out of the structure at the time of Fire Department arrival. No injuries occurred as a result of the fire. LCEMS, TPD and City Utilities assisted on scene. Four people were displaced as a result of the fire. The Red Cross was called to assist the displaced occupants. The damages were estimated at $75,000.00. A Tallahassee Fire Department investigator was called to the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
