Tallahassee Fourth Of July Celebration Gets Positive Review

By  |

An estimated 12,000 people attended the "Celebrate America" festivities July 4th at Tom Brown Park.

Roughly 120 officers and traffic assistants from Tallahassee Police and the Leon County Sheriff's Office directed visitors in and out of the park.

There were no reports of arrests.

The city paid $18,000 towards the event.

Sponsorships and vendor fees covered the rest of the cost.

Managers say thanks to great weather, a variety of local bands and the law enforcement help, the event went as planned.

"Obviously, when we have 12,000 people in Tom Brown Park, it takes a little while fo the car traffic to get out," said Michelle Bono, city of Tallahassee Spokeswoman. "But kudos to TPD, they had a great plan. They had enough officers to quickly move people, so we think it went as good as it ever had before," she said.

People arriving late were not able to park their cars in the park.

Police shut down the park entrance at 9:30, 15 minutes before the fireworks.

Both lanes of Easterwood Drive were open out of the park after the show.

Because last year's show was rained out, part of the cost of last year's fireworks was credited to this year's show.
