Valdosta Police officers have been on Valdosta State campus giving tickets to people not crossing at crosswalks and motorist not yielding to people in the crosswalks.

Those who are caught breaking the traffic law will be hit with a $112 ticket.

"$112 is a little ridiculous. I understand they want to keep people safe, said Richard Stewart a former VSU student. "They don't want anybody getting hurt."

Police say they hope the new initiative will help make the roads a little safer around the campus.
