Valdosta, GA - A concerned neighbor leads police to a jewel heist in South Georgia early Thursday morning.

Valdosta Police are searching for suspects after a local jewelry store was broken into overnight.

Police say the suspects got in by breaking the glass on the front door at Steele's Jewelry. Many of the glass jewelry cases were broken and police say an unknown amount of jewelry was stolen.

After a call to 911 about suspicious activity. police got to the scene, where they found some of the jewelry lying just outside the store. As of Thursday evening, police say, they have no suspects and no description.

"It was probably something that happened pretty quick. It could have been a moment of opportunity or it could have been something they had planned out. Really until we get the people that are responsible for it, we just don't know", says Captain Bobbi McGraw with VPD.

Management at Steele's did not want to comment about the robbery, but other near by business owners say they were surprised it happened in their shopping center.

"It definitely makes you more aware of what's going on in this area", says Michelle Lamb, Owner of Lemongrass Day Spa.
