Jimi Hendrix's final album has dropped more than 40 years after his death.

It's called "People, Hell and Angels."

It's the final piece of unreleased studio material in his archives.

The 12 tracks were recorded in 1968 and '69 after the Jimi Hendrix Experience broke up.

Jimi Hendrix fans can rejoice: Twelve never-before-released songs are set to be released on Tuesday and fans can preview of the entire album at NPR's First Listen page here.

Called "People, Hell and Angels," the collection features songs the late guitarist recorded between 1968 and 1970. The tracks were expected to appear on the follow-up to 1968's "Electric Ladyland," but were never officially released. Many of the songs were recorded at New York's Record Plant Studios. And there's even a guest appearance: Stephen Stills performs on "Somewhere."

According to a statement on JimiHendrix.com, the album "encompass a variety of unique sounds and styles incorporating many of the elements -- horns, keyboards, percussion and second guitar."

Hendrix's posthumous release is thanks to a group of producers and preservationists who worked on the material.
