The lives of more than 600 cats seized from the Caboodle Ranch back in February will be spared...At least for now.
Since the seizure, the cats have been in the temporary custody of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The ruling comes after a custody battle between the cats' original owner, Craig Grant and the Madison County Sheriff's office.
The original ruling gave custody to the sheriff. Attorneys for Caboodle filed an appeal. The judge granted a stay with a bond amount of $1.8 million dollars to be paid by July 16th. Caboodle owner Craig Grant was unable to pay the bond. His attorneys argue that the bond amount exceeds limits allowed within the jurisdiction.
The judge ruled on July 18th to turn the cats over to the sheriff but is prohibiting the use of euthanasia on any of the cats, unless recommended by a veterinarian, until the appeal can be resolved.
