Valdosta, GA - Valdosta has a new crack team in fire prevention. That is, in between their math quizzes.
It is the "Junior Fire Marshall's Fun Day in the Park". Each year this day kicks off fire prevention week in Valdosta. Elementary students are named Junior Fire Marshalls. But it comes with a great deal of responsibility.
"Which includes not only assisting the teachers each month in monthly fire drills but walking the halls, making sure the doors are unlocked and making sure the hallways are clear," said Valdosta Fire Chief J.D. Rice. "They're going to have to take what they learned home and talk to their parents and siblings about how to escape the house in case of a house fire."
The students were given badges to symbolize their new roles and of course plenty of hot dogs too.
