News Release: Leon County Sheriff's Office

At 9:48 pm, on Thursday January 30, 2014, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Traffic Crash on Capital Circle, near the intersection of Entrepot Boulevard. Responding deputies discovered
a two car crash with one person deceased on the scene. LCSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 silver Dodge Stratus was traveling north bound on Capital Circle SW. The Stratus was driven by 25 year old Jonathon Michael Dunlap of Tallahassee. At
the same time, a 1995 silver and blue Mercury Cougar was traveling south bound on Capital Circle. The Cougar was driven by 43 year old
Darren James Ward of Crawfordville.

The silver Dodge Stratus lost control as it traveled through the curve at Entrepot Blvd. The Stratus crossed over the center line and struck the Mercury Cougar. Dunlap did not survive. Ward was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for multiple injuries.

Preliminary results from an autopsy performed today indicated Dunlap
died from trauma associated with the crash.
