Labor Day Travel Plans

According to travel company AAA this Labor Day weekend could set records when it comes to people hitting the roads.

Zellene Williams-Smith, traveling for the holiday said, "You know just to relax, I think I saw a lot of people traveling specially parents and children prior to opening of school."

Williams-Smith is traveling more than 600 miles to visit family in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina this holiday weekend. She says this trip has been on the books for a while and came to AAA to finalize the plans.

Williams-Smith said, "Usually when I'm traveling, we're traveling I always come to AAA because they're such nice people to schedule my traveling plans for me hotel reservations, that kind of thing. "

AAA says 34.7 million American's could travel 50 miles or more during this Labor Day weekend. They say that number is the highest travel number since 2008.

Mark Jenkins, AAA Travel Spokesperson said, "Most people prefer driving because offers that flexibility in making last minute changes to their plans, but also a little more control over what they pay."

However some people like Richard Catching say they'll just relax here at home. Catching says he'll be taking in all that the sunshine state has to offer.

"Oh I think I'll probably be fishing since my place in Panacea is on the water and my brother-in-law and sister have a boat," said Catching.

AAA also says 2.65 million Americans will travel by air this Labor Day weekend which is a 1% increase from last year.
