Valdosta, GA - The Georgia Department of Transportation says you should be on the lookout for lane closures and traffic shifts near the new West Hill Avenue Overpass.
The overpass isn't officially open, but GDOT says drivers will need to use it while other construction goes on underneath. It says contractors still need to do construction on the roads adjacent to, and underneath the new railroad overpass.
"What they're going to do now is put in the asphalt. We have sidewalks, curbs, and gutters out there. The other work that has been done; the fencing has gone up on both sides of the bride, and that should be completed today", says Juanita Birmingham, with the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Birmingham says the lane shifts could last anywhere from six weeks to two months. When completed, the bridge will have four lanes and 6-foot wide sidewalks with fencing on each side.
