Workforce Plus is trying to put a huge dent in the unemployment numbers in the region.
One of the main requirements for employers at the Workforce Plus job fair is that employers had to have jobs available right now; which of course is exactly what job seekers want to hear.
"I need a job."
That is why Tallahassee resident Roger Brannon came to the Jobs=Paychecks Now Job Fair and Expo.
He's hoping the event's title holds true.
Brannon says, "That way I could also be able to earn some money and be able to live much better than what I'm doing right now. I live in an apartment complex for the disabled, operated by Goodwill."
Workforce Plus says Thursday's job fair is the largest in South Georgia and North Florida.
95 employers set up at the Leon County Civic Center, ready to offer jobs ranging from finance to information technology to health care and retail hospitality.
Kimberly Moore, Workforce Plus Executive Director, says, "You want to know that there's hope and there's support and you want to be encouraged that there is an available opportunity for you. I think this event is symbolic of that."
Georgia's unemployment rate dropped from 9.8 in November to 9.7 percent in December. But, the State Labor Commissioner says there were 14-thousand fewer jobs than in December of last year.
The unemployment rate in Florida shows ten percent. The national rate is 8.5.
Havana resident Craig Legat's frustration of looking for a job changed after handing out a stack of resumes at the job fair.
"Very prospective, very prospective." He says.
Brannon says, "I found the conversation and contact with the different employers to be very positive."
This is the 12th year of the Workforce Plus job fair.
Job seekers also received resume and job search assistance, as well as information about available programs and services.
The event was free and open to the public. It was from 10am to 2pm.

I have been working with WorkForce Plus for over 2 years seeking employment. Not the first interview after over 500 applications. Yea, I network, have taken courses on how to interview, prepare a resume, dress for success, on and on. They had this thing on TV about calling in a number to find out about jobs they have. Did that too, got information, made another trip to WorkForce to get info on jobs from the call, the two jobs they gave me were in Orlando sorry but I could not apply for them since I live close to Tallahassee. I hate being given the run around and I get that often. I'm not giving up, I'm still looking for a job.
Many of these employers are not hiring. They are there to let you know about their company for future openings, and it gives their HR employees something to do. I have attended these in the past and its no better than submitting your application on-line. Waste of gas and parking fee.
I agree! So MANY people would have been there.
