Simulator Trains Law Enforcement Officials For Real Life Scenarios

It may look like a video game, but a new training system is helping local law enforcement officers prepare for real life scenarios.

It's called the VirTra System and on Friday law enforcement agencies throughout Georgia stopped by Moultrie Technical College to practice their skills.

The five screen, "Use of Force" simulator exposes trainees to hundreds of potential real life situations.

Moultrie Police Sergeant Daniel Lindsay said, "This allows an officer to come and train with a real scenario, able to mimic a traffic stop, mimic a hostage situation, a domestic dispute, that they go on everyday."

Ryan Bray is a regional manager at VirTra Systems, the company that created the simulator.

"The closer we can make our simulators to real-world officer involved shootings or environments, the better trained law enforcement personnel are going to be," Bray said.

The City of Moultrie purchased the $200,000 simulator through a grant in 2011.

It's also used to help teach criminal justice students who attend Moultrie Tech College.
