Maine State House at Augusta, Maine

The League of Women Voters of Florida was in Tallahassee Wednesday. The group is speaking out against a bill making its way through the house. The bill would create a statewide charter school district. School boards will not have authority over charter schools in their district.

If passed the referendum would go on the November ballot and require a 60% majority vote.

"Such privatization of public dollars puts both our citizenry at risk of losing the one constitutionally mandated paramount responsibility of this Florida legislature to provide a high quality system of high quality public education," Pamela Goodman, President LWVF said.

U.S. Senator Bill Nelson spoke at the conference.
