Tallahassee, FL - Leon County School Board approved of a proposed tentative budget for the 2014-2015 fiscal year.
Today at a public hearing the board voted to approve a budget that has a general fund of more than 284.1 million. That number is down from last year's general fund which was $288,265,105.69.
Leon County Superintendent Jackie Pons says high-school students can expect to have "more choices" for "after school" programs.
"We're offering an opportunity for kids in high-school to have additional choices. I really believe we gotta protect our arts programs and that's the reason kids get up to go to school every day. Art, music and physical education and this budget will allow some extra choices for an extra period at the end of the day," said Pons.
The school board will vote on the final budget on September 9th at 6:00 p.m.
